Philosophy
My philosophy of performance focuses on performance as an act of joy, social justice practice, and expression of personality. I was trained in the Western classical tradition in the fach of a tenor but have developed cross-trained vocal skills to sing in Musical Theatre and Commercial Music styles. I primarily perform in recitals and showcases, where I feel a more intimate connection with the audience and have the flexibility to sing music that feels authentic to my identity.
I seek to explore diverse and non-canonical music in my singing practice to divest myself from exclusionary ideologies while maintaining consistent self-education in vocal literature. My chosen vocality uses an intentional representation framework when picking new music and highlighting minority musical creators. This philosophy uses artistic frameworks such as a recital about the seasons or American composers to feature music written by canonic composers with more broadly unfamiliar creators.
